A man of humble origins, he developed an interest in music at a very young age and when he was still a child, he made his own guitar, mandolin, mandola and a lyre. In 1903 he received an award for his activity as a violin maker, but because of his father’s death he was forced to abandon his professional career for a few years, during which he worked as a furniture maker and as a concert guitarist.
In 1910 he was lead mandolinist at the Imola Mandolin Club, which allowed him to sell many of the instruments he had made. He then decided to fully devote himself to instrument making, achieving excellent results. Even Mussolini requested some of his instruments.
